Marley Dowell

Life for me has been a pair of headphones.

When I was first noticed,

I was in perfect condition.

I was treated like I was important.

But as life went on,

I was used so much,

that I slowly

began to tear apart.

I tried my best to stay in good condition for the happiness of other people.

But as I got older,

I stopped working as well as I once did.

I got tired.

And eventually,

after all of my hard work,

I was tossed into the trash.

My twisted wires and all.

And then I decided:

Once you’re torn apart,

you are never truly put back together.

And when people realize how broken you are,

they ball you up and throw you away.

Like an old pair of headphones.
